Types of People Who Need Vitamin B12

Pernicious anemia can occur because of an autoimmune condition, or it can occur because of any type of damage to the small intestine’s ileum and the stomach. Among the risk factors of getting pernicious anemia are family history for autoimmune disease, family history of pernicious anemia, old age, taking medication that inhibit absorption of vitamin B12 such as acid reflux medicines, and having undergone gastrointestinal surgery, such as gastric bypass or ilium removal from Crohn’s disease.

Pernicious anemia is a fatal disease that is remedied by Vitamin B12. Similar to iron deficiency anemia, the only way to treat it is to replenish the necessary amounts of Vitamin B12 daily.
